The St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Cathe dral,Bellwood, Illinois, U.S.A., is a parish of the Southwest Diocese of America of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

The patron saint of the Church is St. Gregorios of Parumala, the first canonized saint of the Malankara Church from Kerala, India.

The Church was first organized in 1994 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Daniel George. His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios, Senior Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Church, celebrated the first Divine Liturgy on May 22, 1994. Since then, regular worship was conducted at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Chicago. The parish started to grow and doubled its membership from thirty to over sixty families. In 2000, by the grace of God, efforts of the parish priest, and the cooperation of the enthusiastic members of the congregation, the present church building located in Bellwood, Illinois was purchased. In October of 2000, the new church building was dedicated and consecrated to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by His Grace Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios with the assistance of Cor-Episcopos and priests. In 2003, His Grace elevated the church to a Cathedral.

Throughout the years, the parish has been blessed by the visits of several hierarchs, priests, and deacons including the late Catholicos, His Holiness Baselios Mathews II and the present Catholicos, His Holiness Baselios Didymus I.

Apart from regular Sunday worship, the parish also has an active Sunday School, Youth Group, Women’s Group and Prayer Fellowship Group.Activities of the parish include but are not limited to: annual youth group retreat, annual picnic, Christmas carols, fellowship outings, and various service and charity projects.
